Nope, depending on what you are shooting, not as your primary camera, you probably need a dSLR or anyway a SLR with some flexibility. I have a Canon G10 in my kit for backup and walkabout but it’s part of my complete setup.

The other part of that is my stock answer to such questions, there are no professional cameras only professional photographers. I have seen excellent work taken with Kodak Brownie film cameras. I have seen more than one Pulitzer awarded to a guy that was there and borrowed a camera from someone in the crowd.
