Design & Purpose – Ethernet Adapters

In an endeavor to run an office or home network effectively, it is necessary that network cables, adapters, modem, hubs, phone cables etc. must be installed on each computer. The main purpose of Ethernet adapters is to help a user to share files, pictures, printers etc. First developed in the 1970s by Xerox, Ethernet became the talk of the town after the Digital Equipment Corporation and Intel extended hands with Xerox when they developed the Ethernet standard in 1980. It was however, officially acknowledged as IEEE standard 802.3 in 1985. Ethernet adapters consist of a coaxial cable or wire having small taps on the ends and all through the middle; which could be stretched through one, two or three computers i.e. three taps. These wires could be extended up to thirty feet in length and include a “three-node Ethernet segment”.
